About the Event
Aeterna Lucis continues the Aeterna Noctis universe while shifting the focus to the Queen of Light. Following the events of the first game, the balance between Light and Darkness has been broken, and the new protagonist awakens in a world on the edge of the void. The adventure combines Metroidvania exploration, fast-paced combat and a large interconnected world without artificial loading screens. Aeternum Game Studios also introduces real-time dynamic lighting, new abilities and two ways to approach the adventure: Aeterna, designed for a balanced experience, and Lucis, aimed at players looking for a more demanding challenge.
Release date and platforms
Aeterna Lucis launches worldwide on December 3, 2026. The studio has confirmed versions for PC through Steam, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S. The release date is officially confirmed, but no universal unlock time has been announced, so the countdown uses only the release date rather than an invented time.
The Queen of Light
The protagonist of this new adventure is the Queen of Light, who awakens in a world transformed by the consequences of Aeterna Noctis. Her goal is connected to stopping a threat that endangers existence itself and confronting the power of the Supreme God Chaos. The change of protagonist explores the Aeterna universe from the perspective of Light, contrasting with the King of Darkness from the previous game.
A Metroidvania without barriers
Aeterna Lucis retains the series' Metroidvania structure while introducing a fully interconnected world with seamless transitions between regions. Exploration is combined with fast-paced combat, secrets, new abilities and optional challenges. The studio has also developed a real-time dynamic lighting system that allows light to interact with weapons, projectiles, enemies and different elements of the environment.
Two ways to play
The game offers two main modes. Aeterna is designed as a balanced and accessible experience for players who want to explore the adventure without turning every encounter into an extreme test. Lucis, by contrast, is aimed at players seeking a more demanding challenge closer to the philosophy of harder Metroidvania games. Both modes are part of the same adventure and allow players to adapt the level of challenge to their preferred experience.
