About the Event
Edinburgh will welcome the turn of the year with four days of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, from December 29, 2026 to January 1, 2027. The festival opens with the Torchlight Procession through the Old Town, accompanied by pipers, drummers and fire performers, then continues with concerts and activities for different audiences. On December 31, the Street Party and castle-side concert lead into the Midnight Moment and fireworks. The countdown to 2027 is part of the city’s shared atmosphere; schedules and entry details should be checked for each event.
A city lit by fire
The Torchlight Procession opens the festival on December 29. Participants move through historic streets with torches, performers, pipe bands and drummers, connecting the Old Town with the centre.
New Year’s Eve on Princes Street
December 31 brings the Street Party, ceilidh dancing and Concert in the Gardens beneath the castle. Activities span gardens and streets, with live music and dancing. Artists, tickets and access are announced for each area.
The first day of the year
Hogmanay continues after midnight. On January 1, First Footin’ takes music and cultural performances to venues around the centre, while Sprogmanay offers family activities. The programme links the New Year welcome with Edinburgh’s artists beyond the main night.
